Family Tree QUESTIONNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!?

Hi I have been looking up my family on ancestry.com as of lately and i found some information on my Great Great Grandfather but heres the issue on the 1920s Census he and my great great grandma and great aunt stayed in Grier Heights community in North Carolina and i found his neiborhood census and hes listed as a Mullato as well as my Grandma who family rumors say is Cherokee Native american and my Great aunt is listed mullato. WHEN THIS CENSUS was done my gr gr grandma was pregnant with my great grandfather and died 3 days after he was born(birth complications) also my Great aunt who was on the census died after 8-11 months after birth. Then in 1922 my Great Great grandad died from a heart attack bt when i found his birth certificate it said he was a *****. so im confused what race he is *****/Mullato. The only person who lived was my great grandad in which my gr gr grandma was pregnant with who just died in 2004 at the age of 84 and he never knew none of his parents or both sets of grandparents. But when i ask his friends who are living and some of my great aunts they say he was a Black Indian idk what to think? i remember he was dark brown had long jet black curly hair and Gray eyes. so if thats the case what are his parents ethnicity HOPEFULLY THIS MADE SENSE LOL.
